HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Dear Parents,

We hope everyone is enjoying the holidays and that Santa brought lots of joy to you all on Christmas morning.  It is a magical time in a child's life that should be treasured.

I hope children will continue to deliver those "acts of kindness" gifts to Jesus beyond the Christmas season.

Now that the big day is behind us, this is a gentle reminder to please help your little one focus 2 to 5 minutes a day on letter and sound recognition or numbers or printing.  We want students to incorporate learning into daily routines in a positive way on an ongoing basis.  You can do this type of learning at the grocery store, at a friend's house, etc.  Use environmental print (such as cereal boxes, advertising signs, Christmas cards, etc.) to draw letters and numbers to their attention. Any artwork can be used as a spring-board to promote and develop fine motor skills, as well as giving an authentic purpose to printing their name or a title, or labelling items in a picture.

Keep in mind that praise for all and any attempts at printing goes a far way to motivating ongoing efforts in this regard. (Don't correct! - Artwork is suppose to be totally pleasurable so it is not the time for any sort of negativity.)

Also, please review basic personal information on a regular basis.
This includes:
  • child's full name
  • address
  • phone number
  • birthday
  • parents' full names
Thank you for your ongoing support as the most important member of our educational team!

The most important gifts at Christmas are the "Acts of Kindness" that we show to one another.

 ADVENT ACTIVITY  -
To cherish the true meaning of Christmas
Here is a wonderful family activity that helps prepare our hearts for the celebration of Jesus’ birthday, and focuses more on “giving to others” rather than commercial gifts.

Starting immediately or ASAP--- leading up to that special day celebrated on Dec. 25th:
  1. Find a small box and decorate it. (This will hold Jesus’ birthday gifts.)
  2. Keep the box in a prominent place in your home where you will see it on a daily basis.
  3. Keep some small notepaper and a pencil next to the box to mark down any random act of kindness witnessed over the Advent season.
  4. Each day (or as often as possible) family members put something in the box representing a "gift" for Jesus. ("Gifts" such as sharing, cleaning, helping, visiting, etc. --- an act of kindness they have witnessed or was given to them.)
  5. On Christmas Eve place the box under the tree so that in the morning, before you open your own gifts, you can give your special box to Jesus. Read aloud the many acts of kind 'giving' that were witnessed over the Advent season. Share together the good works that were done in preparation for the coming of Jesus, offer thanks to God for all these things.
                          MERRY CHRISTMAS!
