Every few weeks, Mme. Holmes and Mme. Blahout will post a list of some of the French words that are being covered in class. Please encourage your child to "teach you" French - - - as this is an effective strategy to motivate new learners.
Don't worry about their pronunciation or even if the words are correct; the first 'hurdle' is to simply attempt to speak a second language! (This, in itself, is important risk-taking.) It is also very gratifying for little ones to be the teacher, for a change! Here are some words / phrases we have already introduced (or are review for SK's) and some we will be focusing on over the next couple of weeks.
[*FYI: We will wait until the end of October for the fun Halloween words because the energy level increases as everyone gets excited for that big event!]
September and October

REQUIRED CONSENT TO PLAY ON THE CLIMBER
Dear Parents and Guardians,
A blue form was sent home over a week ago requesting parental consent for children to go off our property. It was sent home with the oldest or only child and required all children to be listed.
Unfortunately, many of these forms have been returned with only the oldest child listed. This means any younger children would not have consent to play with their classmates at the park or play structure located beside the school.
If you believe you may have only listed one child (or if you did not return this consent form yet) please return it or write a note giving consent for your child to be off school property at the play structure & park with their class.
Many children have returned their consent forms so most of them are going to the climber area now. However, those few children who must play on the pavement are not very happy.
Thank you so much for your immediate attention!
Regards,
The Kindergarten Team

PIZZA ORDERS!
Now that the Kindergarten students are here all day they have the opportunity to participate in Pizza Day!! A note about it was sent home on Tuesday, but we found a couple on the floor, so they may not all have made it home.
If you would like to order pizza but did not receive a form please let us know and we will send another one home with your child. The forms are due back in the school by Tuesday, Sept 16 and pizza will begin the following week on Tuesday, Sept 23. This session of pizza orders will run until the end of January and we will send out another note later in the year for February-June. There are a total of 17 pizza days in this session.
The pizza will be ordered from Gabriels and the cost is $2.00/slice for cheese or pepperoni and $2.25 for gluten free cheese.
Please note that there are 30 students in each Kindergarten room so we will not be able to cut it for your child to eat. Children need to be able eat it on their own.
Thank you!

MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT
Come out and meet your child's teachers on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 at 6:15 starting in the gymnasium and then moving to the classrooms.
This is an informal meeting just to say "Hello", shake hands, and see the places your child spends their day.
We have met many of you at the Orientation visit or out in the yard at pick up or drop off but have not had a chance to chat. Plus now that we are in the second week of school, your little one is more comfortable and familiar with their surroundings and may be excited to show mommy & daddy their classroom amenities!
Looking forward to seeing you!

SORRY- sheet and yard problems
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The crib sheet idea works beautifully on some of the mats but not at all on others. So therefore, if the sheet is working well, we will leave it on but if it is rolling up the mat then we will send it home.
We have since learned that many types of yoga mats are machine-washable, so we can send home mats upon request - such as Christmas and March Break - for cleaning. Please send us a note whenever you would like us to send it home..
We will also be sending home yoga mat bags, as these get misplaced then found without names. It is a quicker clean-up after Quiet Time to just put the mat in the cubby area. (It takes enough time rolling mats and folding blankets.)
We have not been able to use the green space nor the climber & sand area beside us as new policy prohibits students going off school property. Mrs. Campbell is creating a permission form that gives us consent to go off school property, which will go home this week. When we have the form signed and returned, we will again be able to play in the park with the climber.
Thank you for your consideration and understanding in regards to these little issues as we grow and learn about the Full Day Kindergarten Program.

ATTENTION!! SERIOUS ALLERGY CONCERNS!!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to inform you about a few students with life-threatening allergies
to SESAME SEEDS and/or an assortment of NUTS, especially peanuts.
Some common snack and lunch foods that contain sesame seeds and nut products are bagels, crackers, granola bars and breads.
We kindly request you do your best to avoid these dangerous foods for the sake of our little ones. The teachers (and parents) will be extremely grateful for all your efforts!

To clarify attendance TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2014
To clarify WHO comes to school on Tuesday:
On SEPT 2: We will meet all Senior Kindergarten students (*as well as those Junior Kinders who have already had their orientation meeting) at the side of the school near the Kindergarten doors, where we will have class lists posted. There will be a small coloured pylon to indicate the group colour so that your child can line-up with their class. The class lists note the colour group at the top and are divided by either JK or SK.
PLEASE NOTE! If your JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN child has NOT had their orientation meeting yet, then we will see you in a day or two accordingly. (Not Tuesday.)
Sorry for any confusion caused by the previous blog notice.
